End Inequality, End AIDS: NNSW Commemorates World AIDS Day 2021

On the 1st of December, 2021, NNSW commemorated World AIDS Day, keeping in mind all our family and siblings still facing discrimination, a lack of access to AIDS sensitive healthcare and societal care because of their positive status.

Keeping in track with the theme of the year, ‘End Inequalities, End AIDS’, we ran a poster campaign on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on the theme to begin a conversation on the inequalities faced by further marginalised populations, like sex workers. The posters created were released in both Hindi and English (entire poster campaign at the end). Members also conducted offline activities in remembrance of those we have lost in the fight against AIDS and as a way to look forward.

One of our partner organisations, SANGRAM Sanstha in Sangli was visited by the Social Shastraa Lifestyle team to understand the work we have been doing in AIDS prevention work with community members across the gender spectrum. Watch the entire video here.

In Kerala, members from the Kerala Network of Sex Workers held a Candle Lighting event in Perumbavoor to mark the day in association with the Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) and Swaruma NGO. The event was inaugurated by Mr. T M Zakeer Hussain, the Honourable Municipal Chairman of Perumbavoor.
